For almost two centuries, Rouse Hill House – the ‘house on the hill’ –  has overlooked [Old] Windsor Road, watching as horse and carts gave way to automobiles, Cumberland Plain woodland became pasture land, and villages became an expanding suburbia. At this astounding property you can see the tangible evidence of six generations of the Rouse and Terry families, reflecting the profound changes in the landscape as a young colony grew into the sprawling modern city of Sydney.  The Georgian house is located in a Macquarie-era garden layout and has several outbuildings including cottages, woolsheds and stables, all of which are still surrounded by paddocks. Also part of the surrounding estate are the restored 1888 schoolhouse and the site of the doomed 1804 ‘Vinegar Hill’ convict rebellion.
