My mother used to tell the story of an Uncle who came to visit and used all their butter ration in the meal he cooked. I never thought to ask why. He was from Melbourne – perhaps he was accessing black market butter. Also interesting that he cooked.

There’s a lot we can learn from past generations. We are fortunate not to ‘have to’ but all the same, we can act more responsibly about utilising leftovers and reducing food waste. And same principles for clothing and other material goods.
